Sunset on Kata Beach, Phuket, Thailand
Our view of Kata beach (Phuket, Thailand) from the roof of a resort. We stayed up there along with many other tourists after an island-wide tsunami alert, causing thousands of people to frantically evacuate the beaches and low-lying areas. Despite the panic, we were surrounded by kindness- local hotel staff gave up their seats in a private car to help us take Liya to higher ground quickly (most everyone else was running on foot); the driver was a Swede who carried Liya's diaper bag and helped us climb up to higher ground after we had to park the car; and an Australian couple offered us their baby supplies and one of their family rooms in this resort. It was an incredible day, and to top it all off, there was thankfully no tsunami and we had a hell of a view of the island.
